Bait... the bait dog
You may have seen Bait, formerly called Barret, in the newspaper or on Channel 4 news.
Members Lori and Larry Snider rescued him from where he had been dumped on Highway 57. His multiple injuries... including a broken leg and a mutilated jaw... indicated that he had been a "bait dog" for dog fighters.
We were certain that there was a dogfighting ring in Priest River right NOW !!! Authorities would not believe it, but with some determined effort we believe we have managed to remove puppies from a dog fight residence here in town.
This, unfortunately, is only a misdemeanor in Idaho. We are one of only two states where this cruel and inhuman sport is not a felony, but our legislature saw no reason to change the law because they don't believe dog fighting is an issue in Idaho.
The good news is, Bait already has a wonderful new home and will never again be subjected to terror or abuse. He already knows he's found the love he needed ... he was guest of honor at a bake sale on March 4... and we all had our faces washed by this loving and gentle soul.
