Programs & Services

We receive various owner turnovers and numerous calls from residents and law enforcement reporting stray, abused, and/or neglected dogs and cats.  We provide them with food, care and shelter until their owners or loving forever homes are found.  Our animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and microchipped.  This is included in our adoption fees.

Having troubles making ends meet and need help with pet food?   PRAR provides free pet food to low income pet owners from supplies donated by local merchants and citizens.  Food is available in our community food bank bin located outside our front door.

Some kittens come in at a very young age.  In order to socialize them and have them in a home environment we encourage fostering these animals.

To be considered as a foster:

  • You must be at least 21 years old
  • Complete a foster care application and sign a foster care agreement
  • Sign up as an “on-deck” foster, ready to pick up your cat or kitten within a 36-hour timeframe
  • Be able to set aside time every 3 weeks to bring your foster animal in for follow-up vaccinations and spay/neuter surgery
  • Take on the responsibility for routine care in your home during the foster period
  • Ensure that animals can be fostered in your home
  • Isolate foster animals from family pets within the home, as required

Our Cat Enrichment Program consists of community cat/kitten playrooms in which social interactions with both humans and other cats allows them to engage in their natural behaviors such as hiding, running, climbing, jumping, elevated perching, and scratching.

Our Dog Enrichment program helps Rescue dogs build confidence, encourage social interactions with other dogs along with creating bonds with humans in a controlled atmosphere.

Our canine residents have the pleasure of doggie playgroups during their stay.   Playgroups are conducted everyday in order to exercise and observe their interactions with other dogs.

PRAR rents live traps to assist in trapping animals in need or found animals.  (Please note that PRAR does not come out and trap them nor do we have the ability for TNR).

If you have exhausted all avenues and have tried our Home-to Home Program with no luck and you believe surrendering your cat or dog is the best option for you and your pet, we will happily accept them into our care if we have the room.

ALL SURRENDERS MUST BE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.  Please call 208-448-0699 to speak with a volunteer.

There is no fee for surrenders, but we encourage you to make a donation that will help to cover the cost of caring for your pet until a new home can be found.

When you surrender your animal, we ask you to fill out a form to provide as much information as possible to assist us in re-homing your pet. We also ask that you bring any medical records you may have. Please have this form completed when you bring your pet to us.
